Bali’s day-of0silence, Nyepi is best known as the day they shut down one of the busiest international airports for 24 hours!  The entire island of Bali is confined to their homes (or hotels) with special Pecalangs (village police) that patrol for offending locals and tourists alike.  The night before, the streets are just the opposite, filled with everyone craning their necks to catch the Ogoh-Ogoh parades.  These massive papier-mâché creatures are several meters high and are paraded down the streets, carried on bamboo platforms by up to 30 people.  After the parade, all head to the beaches for more festivities.
